Learn to Quilt
There are many books and how-to guides written to teach you the art of quilting. While these books typically contain great information, I personally learn best by example. There is nothing better than seeing a task or technique performed right in front of your own eyes. Having another person teach you by example can be one of the best ways to get up to speed quickly.
We all don't have this luxury though, so I am going to tell you about an often over-looked resource on the Internet that can have you quilting like a pro in no time. That resource is YouTube.com.
Give it a try. Head on over to http://www.YouTube.com, and type in how to quilt in the search box. There are a number of videos returned that will help to teach you the art of quilting. There are videos that will teach you about:
- How to cut the fabric
- How to sew quilt binding
- Using a quilt sewing machine
- Connecting a bias strip
- Finishing a binding strip on a quilt
- How to trim quilt edges
- How to make quilt seams
- How to make borders for quilts and attach them
- and much more
Next, try some variations of quilting-related terms on YouTube. You will find information about Applique, about stitching techniques, about using quilt templates, and more.
The videos are free, and are often created by experienced quilters. You can learn new techniques, and maybe even get some new creative ideas from these free videos.
So stop on over and have a look.
